I’d like to know who made these cold hearted, obviously retarded, extra
services my parents call chores. I’m pulling the trash bag around, picking up
the fallen tree debris from the humungous redwood trees in the backyard.
Sweating like crazy, I’m not happy and I keep hearing strange noises. Looking
into the redwood trees I try to figure out where the noise is coming from. I
can’t see any birds or other animals in the trees. In fact, the trees aren’t
moving at all. I look over at this huge fountain that is almost as big as a
swimming pool. Walking up to the fountain, my nose wrinkles up and my
eyebrows go down. It is disgusting and full of slimy green and black algae.
The water stinks really badly. The fountain is very creepy looking and barely
works. Turning in the opposite direction from the fountain, I drag the trash
bag behind me and continue to pick up the debris. I hear more strange sounds.
I look to the right, nothing is there. I look to the left, nothing is there. Quickly,
I look up. Still nothing up in the trees that I can see. Peeking behind me, no
one is there either. Trying to catch something out of the corner of my eye, I
spin around really fast, lose my balance, and the bag full of debris catches me
while I fall flat on my face.
Rolling over onto my back, staring up to the sky, I complain out loud, “Why
do I have to do this? I’m only ten. I didn’t want to move to this beach house.
I liked our old house in the city. I miss my friends, twin brothers Logan and
Cody, and my All Star basketball team. I didn’t have stupid chores there.”
A whistling noise that sounds like the wind blowing really hard catches my
attention. Only there isn’t any wind. My heart is pounding and I am scared
because the noise is getting louder and closer.
